Edward Walsh was the last man hanged in County Mayo. He was not however the last man sentenced to death. Walsh was hanged by William Marwood using his Long Drop Method. Walsh who was 35, had murdered his wife in what was one of the most brutal domestic murders in Castlebar in the 19th c. He was hanged in the yard of the Gaol on the Westport Road, Castlebar.
